Offered is a large scale patriotic banner, dating to 1940.  The top of the banner includes a ribbon with an overprinting of “1776 | 164 YEARS OF INDEPENDENCE | 1940”.  The “1776” and the “1940” are defined by blue ribbon tips, while the remaining verbiage is defined by a red ribbon.  The middle of the banner includes an overprinting of “GOD BLESS | AMERICA” and an overprinting of a patriotic shield.  The “G” and the “B” and the “A” are in red, while the remaining letters are in blue.  The bottom of the banner includes an overprinting of “WE ARE GLAD TO BE | AMERICANS”.  The first line is printed in red, and the second line is printed in blue.      

This banner would have been displayed in a home, similar to how a service flag is displayed.  The verbiage of the overprinting, the image, and the colors combine to make a wonderful display piece.    

Conservation Process: This banner was hand sewn to cotton fabric, and both were hand sewn to a mounting board.  To prevent the black dye in the cotton fabric from seeping into the banner, it was first washed in a standard wash and then in a dye setting wash.  The banner is positioned behind Optium Museum Acrylic.

Condition Report: This banner has some minor, age appropriate toning.  In other respects, it is in excellent condition and presents wonderfully.
