Frame Size (H x L): 39.5” x 29”
Banner Size (H x L): 29” x 18.5”
Offered is a swallowtail banner, dating to the World War II era. The top of the banner is blue with a “WELCOME HOME” overprint, and the overprint is surrounded by thirteen white stars that represent the original thirteen states of the Union. The bottom of the banner includes five alternating red-and-white stripes that are oriented vertically. This banner would have been displayed in a window during World War II, similar to how service flags were displayed. The verbiage of the overprint and the patriotic colors combine to make a great display piece, particularly for one’s home.
Conservation Process: This banner was hand sewn to cotton fabric, and both were hand sewn to a mounting board. To prevent the black dye in the cotton fabric from seeping into the banner, it was first washed in a standard wash and then in a dye setting wash. The banner is positioned behind Optium Museum Acrylic.
Frame: This offering is in our Large Reclaimed Wood Frame.
Condition Report: This banner has some minor stains and tears. Two of its four grommets are missing. Still, this banner displays wonderfully.
