Offered is a lithographed textile made by Schwab & Co. of New York. It is made of linen and dates to 1906. It features a striking profile view of an Indian chief. Printed along the bottom of the textile is an overprint that states “(Indian Chief) Sagamore”. Sagamore is a term that refers to the paramount chief among the Algonquians or other North American tribes of the northeast.
Conservation Process: This textile was hand sewn to cotton fabric, and both were hand sewn to a mounting board. To prevent the black dye in the cotton fabric from seeping into the textile, it was first washed in a standard wash and then in a dye setting wash. The textile is positioned behind Optium Museum Acrylic.
